This week I was so thankful to be able to sit down with each of you to discuss your child's progress during parent conferences. In class we filled our shorten days getting ready for Thanksgiving by reflecting upon what we are most thankful for. Here's a closer look at what we did ... READING: Sight Words - 'me' & 'for' Letter(s) of the Week - 'Bb' & 'Ll' Making predictions. Retelling events in a story Identifying the characters and setting of a story PHONICS & WRITING: Identifying & completing rhyming words. Word blending and building. Sentence structure. Starts with a capital. Spaces in between words. Ends with a period. Identifying and locating punctuation. Identifying syllables in words. MATH: Correct number formation 1 to 10. Beginning addition facts 0-5. Counting by 1's, 10's, & 5's to 110. THEMATIC INSTRUCTION: This week we learned about the first Thanksgiving. We read many books, both fiction & non-fiction about what life was like back at the first Thanksgiving. We used puppets to help us retell the Thanksgiving story. We even got together with our wonderful BIG buddies and made Thanksgiving story retelling bracelets. We also wrote about what we are most thankful for and practiced presenting our writing in front of an audience. We also brought in and shared our Tom Turkey projects. Your creativity on those was amazing! No way anyone would want to eat our disguised Tom Turkeys this year! THINGS TO ASK YOUR YOUNG SCHOLAR: Can you show me your Thanksgiving story bracelet and retell me the story f the first Thanksgiving? (NOTE: Your child has a bright orange paper to help assist them if they get stuck on a color) Can you count to me by 10's? Review your child's thanksgiving number book with them. Together have fun exploring different ways to build numbers. Can you build and make different number bonds (math fact families) for each number from 2-10? LOOKING AHEAD Nov. 22 - Dec 2: NO SCHOOL |
