This week was all about rhymes and riddles as we kicked off our two week 'Let's Pretend' unit. We pulled out the classic nursery rhymes, finger plays and fairytales. Here's a closer look at what we did ...

Sight Word(s): REVIEW WEEK - I, a, the, my, go
Here are some helpful ways to practice sight words at home:
*Look for the words in stories that you read together. Encourage your young scholar to read the words they recognize.
*Concentration – Make double sight word flash cards. Turn all cards over and try to pick two that match. When you find a mach try using the word in a complete sentence.
*Sing, sing, sing! Each week we learn a new sight word song. Encourage your child to teach you those songs. They not only help your child learn to read/identify their sight word but they also help them spell them. Win-Win!
Letter(s) of the Week - Cc
PHONICS:
Ordering Letters in the Alphabet
Identifying beginning sounds.
Segmenting sounds in words.
Identifying rhyming words.
MATH:
Identifying and creating patterns (AB, AAB, ABB, AABB, ABC)
Naming and ordering the days of the week.
Graphing and Analyzing Data
Identifying Shapes: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon, trapezoid
Ordering numbers 1-10
THEMATIC INSTRUCTION:
We had such a fun week singing and reciting all the classic nursery rhymes. We hunted for sight words in nursery rhymes with our big buddy class. We used nursery rhymes, such as Jack and Jill and Humpty Dumpty to help us re-order or sequence events in a story. We even laughed our way through a book of modern nursery rhymes filled with fun new twist on the classics like 'Mary had a Little Jam.' The rhyming fun will continue on into next week as we prepare for our field lesson to Fairytale Town on Wednesday.
THINGS TO ASK YOUR YOUNG SCHOLAR:
What rhymes with bat? pig? ten? etc.
Can you recite Humpty Dumpty? What happened first? next? last?
Practice reciting the days of the week in order.
