This week was all about families, who's in them, where they came from and what they mean to us. We also had our first oral presentations of the year. I was so proud of how they students did. Here is a closer look at what we did ...
READING:
Sight Word - go
Letter(s) of the Week - Nn and Pp. Practice proper letter formation, always starting at the top, or middle for lowercase letters. Have your child name some words that begin or end with the letter sounds.
Distinguishing between words and letters
Making Predictions
Retelling events in a story and ordering events.
PHONICS:
Letter Identification and sounds.
Ordering Letters in the Alphabet
Locating and blending initial consonants
Beginning phonic spelling in our writing.
MATH:
Following Directions
Graphing and Analyzing Data
Identifying Shapes (circle, triangle, square, rectangle, trapezoid, hexagon)
Patterns
THEMATIC INSTRUCTION:
We read many books about families this week and talked all about our own families. We made a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast who in our class has brothers, sisters or no siblings at all. Do you know that more students in our class have brothers than sisters and two of our kinder friends are only children. We also wrote about our families. Last each student had a chance to present his/her heritage doll. This was a great way four our class to learn more about the different backgrounds and rich culture represented in our classroom. The dolls truly are amazing! Please be sure to stop in our classroom sometime to see them for yourselves.
THINGS TO ASK YOUR YOUNG SCHOLAR:
Can you sing me the 'go' song? Can you use/write the word 'go' in a sentence?
Can you draw and label a picture of your family?
What was one new food you tried at our Family Culture Potluck?
LOOKING AHEAD:
September 23-27 Scholastic Book Fair in the school library
September 27 Trimester 1 Progress Reports go home
October 2 Fairytale Town Field Lesson
October 7-11 NO SCHOOL for October Break
