THEMATIC INSTRUCTION:
This week we ready many books about friendship. After reading books we discussed: What makes a good friend? How can we be good friends? What are friends? What can friends
do?. As we talked about friendship we discovered that we are all friends in kindergarten. This made us so happy we all added our name to a giant red heart. But OH NO! sometime friends say and do things that hurt us. As we talked I began to crinkle our big class heart a bit, by the end it was VERY wrinkled. We tried to flatten out and straighten the heart, but we learned that it’s very hard to fix a wrinkled heart. We learned that when we say or do hurtful things to others, our hurtful words and actions always stay with them, even if just a little bit.
This week we also read, “David Goes to School” by David Shannon. Through this book, we learned about peacemakers and peace breakers. Peacemakers are people who
follow the rules, who are nice to others, and do what is right. Peace breakers are people who do not follow the rules, interrupt, and are disrespectful. As a class, we discussed the difference between peacemakers and peace breakers and decided that we all want to be peacemakers.
THINGS TO ASK YOUR YOUNG SCHOLAR:
Ask your child if they were a peacemaker or a peace breaker this week!
Can you sing the 'the' sing? Can you use it/write it in a sentence?
Go on a shape hunt around your house. Be on a special look out for trapezoids and hexagons.
