The past few weeks we have been learning all about the different modes of transportation. From hot air balloons, to taxis, to submarines they all help us get where we need to go. I always enjoy celebrating your children's successes and setting goals for the final months ahead. In class this week we rolled into our next unit 'GOING PLACES' focusing on transportation. Here's a closer look at our week .... READING: Sight Word: give & little Making predictions. Identifying character, setting and events in a story. Reading with accuracy and fluency PHONICS & WRITING: Identifying beginning, middle & end sounds. Blends: 'sh,' 'ch,' 'th,' and 'wh' Writing: 3 detail sentences that support the topic sentence. MATH: Subtraction to 10 using manipulatives. Name & recall the value of penny, nickel, dime and quarter. Correct number formation. THEMATIC INSTRUCTION: This week we began our transportation unit. We classified land, sea and air modes of transportation. As we continue, we will be looking at transportation around the world from the past, present and future. We read the story titled If I Built a Car. We are excited about creating a new mode of transportation! Details about this fun project can be found in this week’s homework packet. THINGS TO ASK YOUR YOUNG SCHOLAR: What are the 3 different ways transportation can travel by? (land, sea, air) Can you name for me 3 ways to travel by air? by sea? by land? Can you tell me what happened first, next and last in your day? LOOKING AHEAD: MAR 27 - THE THREE PIGGY OPERA: The students can’t wait to perform on stage. Students will meet in our classroom at 6pm wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. Our show will begin at 6:30pm in the NP3 Gymnasium next Thursday, March 27th. Don't forget to get those cameras ready! MAR 28 - TRANSPORTATION DAY: We will be taking a 'walking field trip' over to the parking lot at NP3 to explore and learn about various modes of transportation. From tractors to trains, there will be so much to see, touch and learn about. APR 10 - QU WEDDING: Don't miss the wedding of the year! Mr. Q and Miss U are always seen together, so it has finally come time for them to tie the knot! Ceremony will be help in our classroom 1:45-2:30. More details to come soon Today we got to spend time hearing from 5 different community helpers. We learned more about what a police officer, a baker, an animal shelter representative, a flight attendant, and a doctor do. Thank you all for all you do to help and serve our community! |
