This week we were excited to come back from October Break and share all about the fun we had. We started our new unit, "Down on the Farm"
Here's a closer look at what we did ...
READING:
Sight Word: like
Letter(s) of the Week - Review of letter names, sounds and how to properly form them
PHONICS:
__at & __am words
Identifying rhyming words.
Reading/writing CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words
Sentence structure. Starts with a capital. Spaces in between words. Ends with a period.
MATH:
Identifying and creating patterns (AB, AAB, ABB, AABB, ABC)
Naming and ordering the days of the week.
Graphing and Analyzing Data
Identifying Shapes: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon, trapezoid
Ordering Numbers 1-20 (What comes before? What comes after?)
THEMATIC INSTRUCTION:
This week we began our "Down on the Farm" unit by looking and learning about PIGS! We read stories about pigs. Made a writing graphic organizer on pigs and wrote about what pigs have, where they live and what they like to do. We painted pigs. But the highlight of the week by far was having the students come up and share their own pig facts and add their picture to our online 'All About Pigs' bulletin board. Thank you parents for helping your young scholar utilize technology to research and collaborate with their classmates about pigs.
THINGS TO ASK YOUR YOUNG SCHOLAR:
What word rhymes with hat? Ham?
What is a daddy pig called? Mommy pig? Baby pig? What else do you know about a pig?
Please help your scholar complete their answers to these questions in complete sentences.
LOOKING AHEAD:
Please remember that we have the following important dates coming up this month.
October 22th - Fog Willow Pumpkin Farm Trip! Please be sure your child bring a disposable lunch and come to school dressed in their tie-dye t-shirt with good walking shoes.
October 30th - The 50th Day of School!! Students (& parents) are encouraged to come to school dressed in 50's attire as we spend the day looking at life long ago. Families are invited to join us for a sock hop and root beer floats from 12-12:30pm.
