This week we welcomed fall as we concluded our apple unit. We tasted apple treats, graphed apples, weighed apples, wrote about apples, read about apples and even baked apples. Here's a closer look at what we did ...

Identifying a story's setting & characters.

Identifying syllables in words
Segmenting sounds in words.Completing and creating rhymes.

Graphing and Analyzing Data
Identifying Shapes: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon, trapezoid
Ordering numbers 1-20
THEMATIC INSTRUCTION:
This week we wrapped up our 'Let's Pretend' unit. We focused mostly on the fairytale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We learned about what the setting in a story is, or where the story takes place and who/what the characters are in a story. Each table group worked together to make puppets for the Three Bears story and we ended the week as each group cooperatively put on a puppet show retelling the important events of the story. We also read many different versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and we had great fun discussing the similarities and differences between the different versions. And who could forget all the fun we had this week on our first field trip of the year to Fairytale Town!
THINGS TO ASK YOUR YOUNG SCHOLAR:
Can you retell me the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears?
What is the story's setting? Characters? What happened first, next, last?
Practice letter sounds by giving your child a letter and asking them what sound it makes.
Have fun with rhyme. Go around the dinner table trying to complete rhymes. For instance say What rhymes with hat? and go around the table having everyone give a rhyming word.
